Kashi Vishwanath Temple (Golden Temple )

Kashi Vishvanath Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva temples. The main deity is known by the name Vishvanatha or Vishveshvara meaning Ruler of The Universe. Dashashwamedh Ghat (Ganga Arti)

Dashashwamedh ghat is famous for great event named Gange Aarti at each evening after sunset. Thousands of earthen lamps are immersed in the Gange water as a floating lamp which looks awesome and seems a great religious ritual of the Hindu devotees. The Gange aarti is a religious event which is performed at the bank of the Gange River by a group of young priests who become draped in a saffron color dress having puja thali and a big brass aarti lamp.
There are two mythologies about the ghat is that the Lord Brahma was created the Dashashwamedh ghat in order to welcome the Lord Shiva, and the second one is the Lord Brahma was sacrificed the ten horses in a yajna here. The Dashashwamedh ghat was reconstructed by the Bajirao Pesava I in the year 1740 AD. It was later reconstructed by the Queen of the Indore (the princess Ahilyabai Holkar) in the year 1774.

Manikarnika Ghat

Manikarnika Ghat (Hindi: मणिकर्णिका घाट) is one of the holiest among the sacred riverfronts (ghats), alongside the river Ganga. It is believed that a dead human's soul finds salvation (moksha), when cremated here. Thus, scores of the elderly across the whole country seek to walk up to its edges, and spend their last days absorbing the charisma of the ghat - which makes even death painless and insignificant to be pondered upon.

Kedar Ghat

Kedar Ghat is the site of Haramapapa Tirtha. At the top of Kedar Ghat exists the temple of Kedareshwar, the patron deity of the southern sacred sect. Maharaja of Vijayanagar had constructed this ghat.

Kedar Ghat is one of the most visited religious ghats of Varanasi, as it adjoins the Branch Math of Kedar Math. Sri Vidyaranya Swami, way back in 14th century (1346 AD) installed a Chandramouleeshwara Shivalinga at the Math in Varanasi. The Kedar Math Varanasi is characterized by an ancient temple that houses shrines of Sri Maha Ganapati, Sri Sharadamba and Sri Adishankaracharya. The temple and its shrines were renovated by Maharani of Burdwan- Radha Rani Devi.

Chet Singh Fort

Chet Singh (1770-1781) built the palatial building of Chet Singh Ghat in mid the 18th century as a small fortress, which witnessed the fierce battle between the troops of Warren Hastings and Chet Singh in 1781 that resulted to the defeat of Chet Singh. Thus this fortress went under the control of British. In late 19th century the King Prabhunarayan Singh had again took the possession of this fort. The northern part of it was donated to Naga group of ascetics who late on built their monasteries and ghats, called Niranjani Ghat and Nirvani Ghat.

Durga Mandir

Kaal Bhairav Mandir

Kaal Bhairav Mandir ( काल भैरव मंदिर) is one of the oldest Shiva temples in Varanasi, India. Situated in Bharonath, Vishweshwarganj (Varanasi), this temple has great historical and cultural importance in Hinduism; especially amongst the locals. The temple is dedicated to one of the fiercest forms of Lord Shiva and wears a garland of skulls and carries a club of peacock feathers. The word "Kaal" means both "death" and "fate". It is believed that even death is afraid of "Kaal Bhairava".

The vahana (vehicle) of Lord Bhairav is the dog. Housed in the inner sanctum of the temple is a silver faced idol of Kal Bhairav who is seated on a dog and is holding a trident. Only the face decorated (with garlands) of the idol is visible to the visitors through the doorway. Rest of the idol is covered with a piece of cloth. On the rear door of the temple, there is a statue of Kshetrapal Bhairav.

Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple (Monkey Temple)

Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is a Hindu temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India and is dedicated to the Hindu God Hanuman. The temple was established by famous Hindu preacher and poet saint Sri Goswami Tulsidas in the early 1500s and is situated on the banks of the Assi river. The deity was named "Sankat Mochan" meaning the "reliever from troubles".

In the temple, offerings to Lord Hanuman (called Prasad) are sold like the special sweet "besan ke ladoo", which the devotees relish; the idol is also decked with a pleasant marigold flower garland as well. This temple has the unique distinction of having Lord Hanuman facing his Lord, Rama, whom he worshiped with steadfast and selfless devotion.

Banaras Hindu University ( BHU), formerly Central Hindu College, is a public central university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1916 by Madan Mohan Malaviya. With over 30,000 students residing in campus, it claims the title of largest residential university in Asia.

The university's main campus spread over 1,300 acres (5.3 km2) was built on land donated by the Kashi Naresh, the hereditary ruler of Banaras ("Kashi" being an alternative name for Banaras or Varanasi). The Banaras Hindu University, South campus, spread over 2,700 acres (11 km2), hosts the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agriculture Science Centre) and is located in Barkachha in Mirzapur district, about 60 km (37 mi) from Banaras. The University is also planning to set up a campus in Bihar.

Varanasi Junction railway station

Varanasi Junction, popularly known as Varanasi Cantt Railway Station is the rail hub in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The first railway line to Benares was opened from Howrah station in December 1862. George Turnbull, the Chief Engineer of the East Indian Railway Company was responsible for deciding the route and building the 541-mile line via Bandel, Burdwan, Rajmahal and Patna. This route up the Ganges plain, with few hills, was chosen because of the primitive railway engines then available.

The station was built on the right bank of the Ganges.

In 1872, the Oudh & Rohilkhand Railway Company opened the line from Benares to Lucknow. In 1887, Dufferin Bridge was constructed over the Ganges at Benares allowing trains to go to Mughalsarai.

The Allahabad-Mau-Gorakhpur Main Line was constructed as a 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) wide metre gauge line by the Bengal and North Western Railway between 1899 and 1913. It was converted to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) wide broad gauge in 1993-94.

Ramnagar Fort

The Ramnagar Fort is a fortification in Ramnagar, Varanasi, India. It is located near the Ganga River on its eastern bank, opposite to the Tulsi Ghat. The sandstone structure was built in the Mughal style in 1750 by Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh. At present, the fort is not in a good shape. It has been the home of Kashi Naresh since the eighteenth century. The current king and the resident of the fort is Pelu Bhiru Singh, who is also known as the Maharaja of Varanasi even though this royal title has been abolished since 1971.

In past centuries, it has been variously known as Mughalchak, Mangalpur and Oven Nagar. The township was named Mughalsarai when Indian railways established a junction here in 1883.
